University of Rochester Colony
In the fall of 2008, the idea of starting a South Asian sisterhood at the University of Rochester was first proposed. Contact was made with the National Council of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. as the interested young women were very impressed with the organization's high goals and aspirations. After numerous informational meetings and discussions, an interest group was created that was determined to give South Asian women a strong voice and active involvement in the Greek community. These eight young women felt that it would be beneficial not only for the surrounding community that they would be supporting, but also for themselves, as they were on a path to self exploration and lifelong sisterhood.
Throughout their process, they were given guidance on the challenges and responsibilities of becoming truly dedicated to Delta Phi Omega's philanthropies and values. Perseverance allowed these women to unite as one and overcome all obstacles. On April 25, 2010, Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. was officially established at the University of Rochester as the first South Asian interest sorority, and the eight founding mothers were given a warm welcome into both the Delta Phi Omega family and the existing Greek community at Rochester.
